Day 2 - Reset Your Lens

My apologies for the delay in this second post, but I, like many of you have to make a conscious effort to make time to spend in the Word, and with God.  So,with that said we are about to set out on a 40 day adventure.  I look forward to our discussions, your comments, learning and most important making a stronger connection with God.

Here we go.....

Day 2 - Verse John 3:3...."I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again"

Where did the term "born again" come from?  In John 3, Jesus is approached by a Jewish religious leader named Nicodemus, a Pharisee.  Jesus tells him, "unless you are born again, you can never see the Kingdom of God".   Jesus explains that as a baby is born from it's mother's womb, so shall we as new Christians be born again, but not from our mother's womb, but through water and the Spirit.

The purpose of today's discussion is not to get "hung up" on just the fact that we are born again, but that Jesus left us with so many different ways to change our lives now that we are "reborn".  We need to now focus on the many teachings of Jesus.  "By paying special attention to Jesus' life and ministry we can better learn how to grow in our spiritual walk with Him" (Moore, p.20).

Here are a few of Jesus' lessons from the book of Matthew, chapter 5;

Matthew 5:3  "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven."
Matthew 5:5  "Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth."
Matthew 5:6  "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled."
Matthew 5:7  "Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy."
Matthew 5:8  "Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God."
Matthew 5:11-12 "Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me.  Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you."

What or better yet How can we as Christians go out into our daily lives and live these lessons?  Can't we take a few moments out of our day and spend it with God by reading His word?  To be the hands and feet of Jesus we need to live by his lessons, feed the poor, take care of the widows, forgive, be kind.  We are not like those who do not know the Lord, we have now accepted the responsibilities of being a Christian, as it says in
Matthew 5:14-16  "You are the light of the world.  A city on a hill cannot be hidden.  Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl.  Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.  In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven."

We are not meant to hide, we are meant to lead by example.  I believe that others will want what I have, a peace and good spirit, one that does not critisize or condemn others, one that sees the good in all things.  One of the most incredible parts of the journey I am on is when people say to me, "Are you always happy?", "Do you always see the good or positive side of circumstances?"  I try to.  Life is hard and people are hard, but I hope to show them a softer side.  We do not know what they are experiencing in their lives, and maybe we can be a light that they can turn to, even if they do not say anything.  Others watch us, they are waiting for us to fall, or falter... be careful because we are still human, and only Jesus is perfect.

What can you do today to show the world that you are a Christian?  What lesson can you take from Jesus, either one posted here or a different one from the Bible?  Be the LIGHT in someone's life today, expecting nothing in return, except to know that you were "Jesus like" to them.

What do you think?  Let me know.  I look forward to hearing from you!

God Bless you all, see you tomorrow.

  1. Thank you for your insight Wendy. Today I wrote in my journal "the world has become so impersonal", and even though over 100 people wished me a happy birthday yesterday on facebook and I was greatly appreciative, it leaves me cold when I don't get to see my kids, and some of my closest family members don't acknowledge it. Even someone in my own house who was in the next room wished me a happy birthday on facebook instead of personally. Really? But that is where our world is headed. It's scary, so you're right, it is so important for us to ask for God's grace every day to be the hands and feet and face of Jesus to others. I was also very glad that they talked so much on day 2 about the journey. That it is a journey, this life with Christ. It is a relief to know that there is always room to grow - I am so imperfect, and that's ok - because I am journeying to perfection - I always sign my emails "joining the journey, loving the adventure". How true that is. Thanks again Wendy, great insight.

    1. Thank you Terri for sharing, and if I may Happy Belated Birthday :-)... I discovered years ago that when it was my Birthday, I would mope around because no one knew, and it was a horrible day... until one Birthday I decided to TELL everyone that it was my birthday. What a wonderful gift that is, not only to me but to others too! Try it next year, tell everyone that it is your birthday, people in the check out line at the store, people on the phone, everyone!! It is incredible, they are happier than I am a lot of times, and that makes me happy. It's not a "ego trip" because most people hate their birthdays, I happen to love mine now because I do this. They smile right away, and I am goofy crazy that day, and it is incredible. And you are absolutely correct, it is a journey, but remember to have some fun along the way.. I also learn from my mistakes, my imperfections and God gets me every time (in a good way thankfully). Thank you again for sharing and I am honored to be on this journey with you!

  2. I so enjoy hearing/reading your thoughts Wendy! In reading Day 2 I am reminded that this love relationship we have with God is an "every day" thing. Not as in ordinary, but as in DAILY. In order to nurture the passion of our relationship, we need to be intentional about drawing close to Him every day, and allow His love for us to shape and mold the Christian we let loose on the world. ;-) I wonder how other people draw near to the Lord every day? How do you spend your quiet time with God each day? Is it always the same, or do you mix it up? Inquiring minds want to know! :)

    1. Hi Grace, as I read your comment, it occurred to me that my time with God is not always quiet, I have to ask for His help several times during the day, and I find I thank Him several times daily also :-) It is changing me. Very cool.
I too would be interested in knowing how others are drawing closer to God. Thank you for sharing, and your encouragement!

  3. And again I have to say as I have said before, most help I have gotten have been from people that aren't christians, but they are more christ like then a lot of christians today that I know. I have to say I have been struggling with being christ like...but I very time I give I give with my whole heart and I don't expect anything in return. That was something that my swedish grandpa always said...if you give as a christian give wholeheartedly...and don't expect anything in return...I have kept the promise I gave him and I have to say I never had much but I never had problems with sharing the little I have... I have noticed that I am using my driving time to think about God a lot lately...and im constantly reminded of one song....

Refr.: dann jauchzt mein Herz ...

    3) Wenn mir der Herr in Seinem Wort begegnet,
wenn ich die großen Gnadentaten seh,
wie Er das Volk des Eigentums gesegnet,
wie Er's geliebt, begnadigt je und je,
Refr.: dann jauchzt mein Herz ...

    4) Und seh ich Jesus auf der Erde wandeln
in Knechtsgestalt, voll Lieb und großer Huld,
wenn ich im Geiste seh Sein göttlich Handeln,
am Kreuz bezahlen vieler Sünder Schuld,
Refr.: dann jauchzt mein Herz ...

which is how great thou art...

    1. Hello Aurora, thank you so much for your comment, I am blessed by it, as I too spend a lot of time with God while I am driving.
Your Grandfather sounds like a very wise man, it is true that the Bible says, give without expecting anything in return.
I have found that when I do this it makes the giving all the more meaningful, and not only does it bless those to whom I have given, but God blesses me in return.

I hope that you will continue with me on this journey, I look forward to getting to know you more, if you are comfortable with that. God Bless you Aurora, and have a beautiful day. Love in Christ, Wendy
